Adventuring with Anxiety

Adventuring with Anxiety

This is a day-in-the-life snippet of how anxiety can affect me.  I want you to know you can adventure alone, as a woman, as a person with anxiety and panic attacks, and still have it be a good experience.  September 29, 2018 I should have moved my camper to another spot here when I had the chance. Now it’s too late – all the spots are full and it’s dark outside. It’s been five hours and I haven’t been able…

more Fort Walton Beach, Florida

Fort Walton Beach, Florida I’ve been lazing away some days at a friend’s “cabana” in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. It’s pretty ideal and I feel luxurious hanging out at this 1960’s low profile little complex of eight single-story cabanas right on the beach.  I’m glad I left New Orleans when I did on Sunday, because if I’d waited one more day, I’d have been driving in, and camping in that tornado storm! Yikes! As it was, the storm came through…

Hot Springs, Arkansas

Hot Springs, Arkansas

Hot Springs is a neat town. Population around 35,000 and a pretty good arts community – in no small part due to the involvement of my friends who helped found the KUHS 97.9 FM community radio station, a community arts center and gardens, among other things. I got my camper popped up in their driveway and we set out for a hike. The national park is interlaced with the town proper, so it both runs through town in some parts…

Happy Anniversary/Birthday, Argos!

Happy Anniversary/Birthday, Argos!

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM HOT SPRINGS, AR! One year ago Argos doggie came home from Coconino Humane Society with me. He was so terrified of the world that I had to carry him from his kennel to my truck. He has turned out to be a fun hiking buddy, a great guard dog, friend to Pugsly, and most amazing doggie companion. Happy birthday/anniversary, Argos!

winter travels

It’s official. I will be on the road come early December. Holy cow. No job, no ‘home base’, no real plans. As a friend reminded me, You can always make more money but you can’t make more time. “If you don’t do it this year you’ll be another year older when you do” ~ Warren Miller It’s time to leave the caustic workplace, and the lonely rental. Me ‘n the dogs are going on the road. Since it’s winter, a…

Oct 22 : VotG group

Once everyone arrived, the majority of the campers are from Washington State! Escaping the grey and wet. One of the fellows found out from the park service that fires are allowed this time of year, so both nights we had a gathering around the campfire with tall tales and star-gazing. I didn’t write anything in my journal during these next bunch of days. We walked, and cooked, and conversed and explored. A man in a sedan drove in and parked. He…
